Art & Fashion Design

The Art & Fashion Design Department is a lively, popular and creative hub within Charterhouse. The study of art is a journey of exploration and our aim is to undertake projects that stretch the appreciation and understanding of the aesthetic, technical and conceptual aspects of art.

Scholars are part of a vibrant and inclusive environment where pupils are encouraged to share ideas and develop their skills.  Art Scholars are expected to make full use of Studio’s facilities and become involved in the life of Charterhouse and its opportunities for enrichment.

Art & Fashion Design Scholarship assessments are held in November and candidates will be invited to bring a portfolio of work with them.

dance, Drama, and performing arts

Our Performing Arts Hub, situated in the Ben Travers Theatre, is a wonderful, well-equipped site for our Scholars and pupils to undertake all aspects of performance art – Dance, Drama, and Musical Theatre.

This on-site facility provides the best experience for our Scholars. All pupils at Charterhouse are encouraged to be involved in all aspects of theatre, not just performing, but also production skills such as lighting, sound, and backstage work.

With a new, purpose-built studio and imminent improvements to the existing theatre space, we offer unparalleled facilities to our Scholars and pupils, and the opportunity to work with top industry professionals.

With an abundance of quality Musical Theatre, Drama, and Dance experiences throughout the School year, we also ensure that all Scholars perform in an exclusive production, showcasing them and their peers.

Whilst GCSE Drama and A-Level Theatre options are available, there is no expectation that a Scholar should opt for these subjects. It is encouraged, of course. Scholars will be invited to related workshops, lectures, and theatre trips organised for pupils studying Performing Arts as part of their curriculum.

Scholars will be expected to participate in some way in any production taking place at Charterhouse.

In addition, Scholars will be encouraged to organise theatrical events themselves, such as directing or producing a House play or a piece for the Artifex Festival, to further enhance their skills as they progress through the School.

We aim to give all our Scholars and pupils a first-class experience in every aspect of Theatre and Dance, by providing teaching and mentoring from performance professionals who understand the importance of discipline in promoting skills, motivation, dedication, and focus. We believe this, along with the encouragement of their successes, provides valuable life skills, whatever their aspirations.

Details of initial video submissions for candidates will be given by our Admissions team. From these tapes, applicants will be invited to audition in person in front of our panel.

Scholarships will be reviewed annually, based on each award holder’s commitment.
